Federal investigators conducted a search Wednesday of President Joe Biden\u2019s vacation home in Rehoboth, Del., as part of their ongoing probe into his handling of classified documents, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Bob Bauer, Biden\u2019s personal lawyer, said in a statement that the president\u2019s team did not seek to provide advance notice of the operation. But he confirmed the search by the Department of Justice was taking place after it was reported by CBS News, which, along with other television outlets stationed outside of the president\u2019s home, observed black vehicles arriving mid-morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Federal agents searched the home from 8:30 am to noon, Bauer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo documents with classified markings were found,\u201d he said in a statement. But, as with a similar search at Biden\u2019s other Delaware home, \u201cthe DOJ took for further review some materials and handwritten notes that appear to relate to his time as Vice President.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
The search is part of a special counsel investigation into Biden\u2019s handling of the classified materials found in November at his office in Washington and in December and January at his home in Wilmington. In late January, a 13-hour search of Biden\u2019s home recovered additional classified items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have been pretty transparent from the beginning with providing information as it occurs throughout this process,\u201d Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House counsel\u2019s office, told reporters outside the White House on Wednesday afternoon. \u201cWe have released probably thousands of words of statements from the president\u2019s personal attorney and the White House counsel\u2019s office about the process that has been undertaken.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
He added that Biden has been fully cooperative with investigators. \u201cHe believes in giving them the space to conduct a thorough review, and to conduct that review efficiently. That\u2019s why he\u2019s moving quickly to give them the access to his home in Wilmington, to give them access to his home in Rehoboth so they can do a full search, so they are able to get access to the information to move ahead in their review.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
The drip of new information has widened the scope of the probe into Biden and raised fresh frustration among some Democrats over why the searches weren\u2019t conducted sooner and more thoroughly. Late last month, however, former Vice President<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
There is also a separate special counsel investigation into former President Donald\u2019s storage of a far larger cache of classified documents at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
The Bidens bought the beach house after his time as vice president, and his family visits the property occasionally on weekends. Biden\u2019s lawyers said previously that they had searched the Rehoboth home and turned up no classified materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
The latest search comes as the special counsel in the investigation, Robert Hur, formally begins his work on the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

“Throughout our careers, Jill and I have dreamed of being able to buy a place at the beach at home where we can bring the whole family,” Biden said in a statement in 2017, according to Fox News. “We feel very lucky that we’re now able to make that happen and are looking forward to spending time with our family.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Biden’s primary residence is a 6,850-square-foot home in Greenville, Delaware, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
The six-bedroom, 5\u00bd-bathroom features personal touches.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n
Delmarva Now reported in 2017 that the Rehoboth Beach property has three fireplaces, two large porches, outdoor showers, an elevator, and a dog-washing station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
A sign reading “Beau’s gift” also hangs on the front of the house, honoring the Bidens’ son Beau who died of brain cancer in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Biden told CNN in 2016 that he considered selling his Greenville home in order to pay for Beau’s cancer treatments, but then-president Barack Obama made him promise not to and offered to lend him the money, instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
The Bidens’ children and grandchildren are frequent visitors to Rehoboth Beach.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n
Biden’s son Hunter and his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle had three children together: Naomi, Finnegan, and Maisy. He had another son, Beau, with his wife Melissa Cohen, whom he married in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Hunter also fathered a daughter named Navy with Lunden Roberts, a former stripper, in 2018. Biden publicly acknowledged his seventh grandchild for the first time in a statement to People magazine on July 28, saying that “Jill and I only want what is best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy.” He added that Hunter and Lunden are “working together to foster a relationship that is in the best interests of their daughter.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
Beau was married to Hallie Biden and had two children, Natalie and Robert “Hunter” Biden II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
