Jasmine Nunez, 22, originally hailed from Springfield, Massachusetts. She was attending Mandl School and studying to be a surgical technician in New York. She also worked part-time as a dental receptionist. Described by friends and family as very beautiful, Jasmine was obsessed with social media. She received a lot of attention online and also interacted often with her followers on Twitter and Facebook. According to Jasmine\u2019s sister, Melanie, Facebook was her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

On June 12, 2011, firefighters were alerted to a brush fire at James Baird State Park in Pleasant Valley, New York. When fighting the flames, they came across the burned remains of a woman wearing Levi\u2019s jeans, a cami shirt, and Victoria\u2019s Secret underwear. The body was charred beyond recognition except for a lotus tattoo on the back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

According to officials, the unidentified body lay unclaimed in the Dutchess County coroner\u2019s office for several days. The local police posted the picture of the tattoo on social media in a bid to identify the victim. It was through social media that Melanie and her mother came across the picture of Jasmine\u2019s tattoo and were finally able to identify her body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Who Killed Jasmine Nunez?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n

Jasmine Nunez\u2019s murder remains a mystery for the most part. However, Jasmine\u2019s family, as well as the police, suspected it was Andres Ceballos, Jasmine\u2019s live-in boyfriend, who killed her. According to Melanie, Jasmine was planning to leave her boyfriend, who became very controlling and constantly kept breaking into her Facebook account, email and phone. The couple had also visited Aruba in April to patch things up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

On June 6, 2011, the first danger sign appeared when Melanie couldn\u2019t reach her sister on the phone. She immediately texted Jasmine on Facebook, and Jasmine replied that she was busy with school and work. Even then, Melanie was worried as numerous calls to her sister went unanswered for days. She stated she spoke to Andres Ceballos the day after Nunez\u2019s body was found. \u201cI talked to him the day after she was found,\u201d she said, \u201cHe sounded so calm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

On June 17, the Mandl School contacted Jasmine\u2019s dad, stating that they haven\u2019t heard from her for days. Jasmine\u2019s family immediately filed a missing person report and informed police about Jasmine\u2019s New York apartment. The police helped Jasmine\u2019s family break into her apartment. Inside, the family found Jasmine\u2019s bags packed. On the other hand, Ceballos\u2019 things and the couple\u2019s dog were gone. The police, through their investigation, also found witnesses at the brush fire site who said they saw a vehicle in the area moments before Nunez\u2019s body was found. The police also made a sketch of the suspect based on the witness statements, but it did not look anything like Andres Ceballos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The vehicle matching the witnesses\u2019 descriptions was spotted by the Virginia State Police near Emporia, Virginia. When the police tried to pull the car over, Ceballos got out of the car and fled. Before the police could reach him, he took out a gun and fatally shot himself. When Ceballos died, all the answers apparently died with him. Unfortunately for Jasmine\u2019s family, it would appear as though they didn\u2019t find the closure they sought. However, they are still keeping their loved one\u2019s memory alive. The New York State Police say they have identified the woman found dead and set on fire in James Baird State Park on June 12, 2011, and that the suspect in the homicide is also dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

State police said the dead woman has been tentatively identified as Jasmine Maxine Nunez, 22, of the Bronx. Nunez was last seen with her live-in boyfriend, Andres Ceballos, 26, police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Ceballos killed himself after fleeing police in Virginia on Monday, the New York State Police said in a press release Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Over the weekend, Nunez\u2019s family reported her missing to the New York City Police Department, state police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Virginia State Police encountered Ceballos\u2019 vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, on Route 58, heading west toward Emporia, VA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Southampton County deputies and Virginia State Police attempted to stop the vehicle, and a chase followed. At one point, Ceballos exited the vehicle and fled. He then fatally shot himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

New York State Police said a news conference is planned this morning in Valhalla, Westchester County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

LaGrange Fire Department firefighters discovered the charred remains of a female victim June 12 2011, when they responded to a report of a brush fire only feet from James Baird Park Road. The body, which was found about 05:15 a.m., less than a mile off the Taconic State Parkway, had apparently been set on fire minutes before the arrival of a fire crew, state police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Days before her body was found on fire in James Baird State Park, the Bronx woman said she planned to leave her live-in boyfriend, who she had described to her sister, Melanie Nunez, 20, of Springfield, MA, as \u201cincreasingly controlling\u201d and \u201cconstantly breaking into her Facebook account, e-mail, phone\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Jasmine was planning on leaving her boyfriend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The cause of death has not been released yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
